Bluegrass United Academic Center Electives

A Program of Bluegrass United

Bluegrass United Core Principles

  1. We believe Jesus is Lord and that the Bible is his Holy Word.
  2. We value each student as a creation of God, worthy of love and respect for who they are in Christ.
  3. We are committed to providing a safe environment where students experience freedom to be who God has called them to be and to grow in their understanding of God's plan for their lives.
  4. We believe parents are solely responsible for the education of their children and serve as their primary educators.
  5. We believe the needs of the high school home school community are better served when home school families and support organizations work together.
  6. We believe in excellence in education as measured by students reaching their maximum potential in their personal and academic development.

 "Distinctives" of Bluegrass United

1) We believe in Homeschooling

We believe that high school homeschool students come to Bluegrass United with an

already strong set of values that have been carefully instituted by their families, their

churches and their personal faith. Therefore, we do not seek to "mold" students, "grow"

them or change them. Instead, we want to provide a safe and supportive community where

students can become the people God has already called them to be.

2) We Trust Parents

We believe parents know their children best and are uniquely equipped to lead their

children. Therefore, BU leaves as many decisions as possible in the hands of parents. We

listen to parents and take all suggestions and criticisms seriously.

3) We Encourage the Discouraged

We deal with problems as they arise in a direct and timely manner. Except in very rare

cases, all problems are handled one-one-one in a private manner between the leadership

and the offending student as soon as they occur. Problems are not projected on to the

community. Compassion, privacy and good humor are valued in conflict resolution. The

ultimate goal is for the student to be edified and encouraged.

4) Bluegrass United is a Christian Community

The BU Leadership team consists of people who profess to be committed evangelical

Christians and attend church regularly. They are charged with overseeing that BU

programming is compatible with the values of Christian families. BU program leaders are

professing Christians who agree to operate their programs and classes according

to Christian principles. BU students are expected to conduct themselves according to

    Christian values.

5) We Value Creativity

We attempt to think and plan in creative ways and are not afraid of failure.

6) We Embrace Community

We believe the student’s desire for friendship and community is a God-given desire worthy

to be embraced. We strongly endorse programs and activities that build friendships and

community and believe they are one of the most important factors linked to student

    satisfaction with high school homeschooling.

7) We Strive For Excellence in Education

We believe in excellence in education as measured by students reaching their God-given

potential. This potential is not solely measured by academic success.

8) We View BU Leadership as a Christian Ministry of Service

---We believe it is an extraordinary privilege to serve students and serve God.

---Bluegrass United is leadership driven, which we believe has proven to be the most

effective and sustainable form of homeschool leadership.

9) We Strive to Make BU Activities and Programs Inclusive

Bluegrass United is open to all homeschoolers who are willing to abide by BU principles and

we strive to make room for all who want to participate.
